Rainey’s Soul Food is delicious—definitely one of my new favorite spots in Hampton! Everyone in the restaurant is so nice, and the service is quick with little to no wait time. The curry chicken was tender and full of flavor, and the yams were to die for—perfectly balanced and absolutely amazing. The mac and cheese was just right, cheesy but not over the top, and tasted just like home. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about were the collard greens, which could’ve used a bit more flavor, but overall, the food was great!

Top-tier soul food + genuine Southern hospitality The cabbage and collard greens were perfectly seasoned (not salty), the real mac & cheese was rich and comforting, and the yams were cooked to perfection. The whiting was a highlight — beautifully crispy and fresh. Beyond the food, the owner and staff treat every guest like family, bringing personality and care to the whole experience. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic, well-made soul food.

The portion ratio was off to me. And both were the same cost. I’m used to rice being complementary. But no biggie. Both the jerk and curry chicken were very good and flavorful. The jerk was good but could’ve been better if it had gravy.

Food was great! Fried shrimp was plentiful and NOT greasy. Macaroni and cheese was clearly homemade and delicious. We ate inside and the cashier bought our food to us. Since the food was in take out containers, we did not have to wait for to go containers. The servings are large so you will have enough for later. Ms. Rainey's grandson is a great addition to the team. Will return.
